Yogi Government to Transform Bundelkhand Expressway into a ‘Solar Expressway’

In a bid to accelerate industrial growth and enhance the maintenance and facilities of industrial zones and highways, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is embarking on a unique endeavor. With a focus on sustainable energy, the state government is now spearheading efforts to promote solar energy as a viable source of power.

Within the framework of Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to high-quality highways and their upkeep, an innovative approach is being pursued, linking them with renewable energy sources. In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA) is preparing to implement a pioneering project that integrates solar energy into the Bundelkhand Expressway.

Currently, UPEDA has issued an ‘Expression of Interest’ letter outlining a comprehensive plan to transform the Bundelkhand Expressway into a solar-powered expressway. The plan entails creating an intricate blueprint under the PPP (public-private partnership) model, with the installation of solar panels on a large scale.

Solar Energy to Define the Identity of Bundelkhand Expressway

As per information provided by UPEDA, the ambitious project aims to develop the 296-kilometer-long Bundelkhand Expressway into a solar energy-driven expressway. The detailed execution plan, directed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is already in progress. Consequently, UPEDA has invited interested parties to submit their applications by August 17th via upeida2@gmail.com. Selected applicants will be called upon for presentations, following which the process of solar panel installation will commence.

The initiative will see the transformation of regional strips of land, measuring around 15-20 meters in width, into solar parks along the Bundelkhand Expressway. This strategic integration of solar panels is expected to shape the future direction of the expressway and significantly contribute to its sustainable energy profile.

Notably, the Bundelkhand Expressway stands as one of Uttar Pradesh’s most modern and well-equipped roadways. This endeavor to infuse it with solar energy showcases the government’s commitment to innovation and progress. In the 296-kilometer stretch of the four-lane expressway, divided into main carriageways and service lanes, the proposed solar panel-covered area lies between them. This section, which currently remains vacant and is often used to segregate agricultural land and install fencing, will soon take on a new role as a solar park. This transformation is set to mark a monumental step toward aligning the expressway with renewable energy sources.
