World Leaders Converge in India for G20 Summit: A Platform to Shape Global Diplomacy and Policy

Leaders from around the world have started arriving in India for the G20 Summit, providing India with an excellent opportunity to strengthen its soft power on the global stage. In addition to the economic agenda, India is preparing to outline its foreign policy through this summit. Apart from the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral meetings with more than 15 world leaders.

Bilateral Meetings Scheduled for PM Modi

According to media reports, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Mauritius and Bangladesh on September 8. On the same day, he will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden. Furthermore, on September 9, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and Italy, all of which are separate from the G20 Summit. On September 10, he will have a lunch meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and a separate bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from Comoros, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, the European Union, the European Commission, Brazil, and Nigeria.

G20 Theme: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

The G20 Summit, under India’s leadership, has adopted the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which translates to “One World, One Family, One Future.” Several international organizations, such as the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, International Labour Organization, Financial Stability Board, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, are participating in this G20 Summit. India has also invited regional organizations like the African Union, African Union Development Agency, Asian Development Bank, and ASEAN to participate in the summit.

Possible Agenda for G20 Meetings

The G20 Summit is expected to include discussions on economic and trade matters, climate change, energy, debt restructuring, cryptocurrency regulation, and food security. Additionally, the summit may address issues related to international debt architecture, crypto regulations, and food security. India may also emphasize topics like renewable energy and climate finance.

This G20 Summit presents an opportunity for India to engage with the global community on various critical issues while showcasing its diplomatic prowess on the world stage.
