Repair work on a level crossing near Balasore Railway Station in Odisha was carried out without the approval of senior officials from the Signal and Telecommunication Engineering department. Additionally, the circuit diagram was not approved. This information was revealed to a special court in Bhubaneswar by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On June 2nd, a train accident occurred here, resulting in the tragic loss of 296 lives and leaving over 1,200 injured.
CBI officials stated that one of the causes behind the accident was the repair work on level crossing gate number 94 near Balasore Bazaar station, carried out by Senior Section Engineer Arun Kumar. Mahant, another L.C. Gate (level crossing gate) number 79, was using the circuit diagram. However, Mahant denied the allegations, stating that LC Gate No. 94 was not functioning properly, but higher authorities did not pay attention to this. The responsibility for the relevant inspection was delegated to others, so he is not accountable for the accident.
