Tragedy Strikes in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh: Collapse of Old Building Claims Five Lives, Leaves Four Injured

In a heart-wrenching incident in Vrindavan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, a dilapidated house collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of five individuals as they were buried under the rubble. Additionally, four others were injured, with two of them admitted to the Vrindavan’s Saushruti Hospital and one to Mathura City Hospital, while another was referred to Agra for further treatment. This accident took a particularly devastating turn as two daughters witnessed their mothers losing their lives. Both daughters are also undergoing medical treatment.

The incident occurred just moments after the family had returned from a visit to the Shri Banke Bihari temple at around 5:15 AM. While the father remained inside the guesthouse, the wife and daughters were exiting the premises when tragedy struck. A sudden collapse of debris fell upon them, leading to the fatal accident.

One of the injured victims, Shiv Narayan Kashyap, residing in Kanpur Nagar’s Phase-2, Vrindavan, shared that his wife, Geeta Kashyap, lost her life in the incident. His wife and daughter, Anamika, were returning from darshan at the Shri Banke Bihari temple when the accident happened. Shiv Narayan Kashyap had stayed behind at the guesthouse.

The tragedy struck when they were just about to reach the guesthouse after returning from the temple. Anamika immediately informed her father about the accident and rushed to Saushruti Hospital. Sadly, Geeta Kashyap was found deceased, and Anamika was also injured. The emotional shock led Anamika’s condition to deteriorate rapidly, prompting her admission to the hospital and requiring intravenous therapy.

Anamika shared her account of the incident, explaining that her mother was carrying her headload and suddenly collapsed. Anamika realized her mother was trapped beneath the debris. Before she could fully comprehend the situation, a stone struck her head as well, causing her to lose consciousness.

Another injured individual, Akanksha Mugai, aged 25, who resides in Krishna Apartments, Omega, Vrindavan, shared her experience. She revealed that a piece of debris fell onto her head suddenly. Her mother, Anju Mugai, was fatally injured in the accident. Akanksha was immediately rushed to the City Hospital for treatment.

The incident took place near the Vishnu Bagh Wala building, located around 200 meters from the Shri Banke Bihari temple. According to police officials, the decades-old building had become increasingly precarious after recent heavy rainfall. On Tuesday evening, around 5:45 PM, the balcony and roof boundary of the building collapsed.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on the tragic event and announced compensation of 4 lakh INR for the families of the deceased. Free medical treatment was also assured for the injured individuals. Investigation into the causes of the collapse and identifying those responsible is currently underway.
