The Central Cabinet has given approval to the proposal of providing a subsidy of ₹200 on domestic cooking gas cylinders. The central government has made a significant announcement on the occasions of Raksha Bandhan and Onam to provide relief to the public struggling with inflation. A subsidy of up to ₹200 will be provided on the prices of gas cylinders for all consumers. Beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana will receive an additional subsidy of ₹200. This means they will receive a total discount of ₹400 on one gas cylinder. The announcement was made by Union Minister Anurag Thakur after a Cabinet meeting held before the evening of Raksha Bandhan.
₹400 Subsidy on Gas Cylinders under Ujjwala Yojana
Union Minister Thakur stated that beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana will receive a separate subsidy of ₹200 on gas cylinders. This means they will receive a total subsidy of ₹400. The ₹200 subsidy will be provided to all consumers. Prior to this, a reduction of ₹100 was implemented in the prices of commercial LPG cylinders on August 1. During the pre-evening Raksha Bandhan celebrations, Union Minister Thakur announced the decisions taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi.
Free Gas Connections under Ujjwala Yojana
Minister Thakur mentioned that under the Ujjwala Yojana, 75 lakh women will be provided free gas connections. They will also receive free pipes and stoves. While addressing the press briefing, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that the success of Chandrayaan-3 has elevated India’s stature in the world. The achievements in space missions like Chandrayaan-3 have showcased the progress of India. He also mentioned that August 23 will be celebrated as National Space Day. The Cabinet praised everyone associated with Chandrayaan-3.
