Rishikesh-Gangotri Highway Remains Closed for Third Consecutive Day Due to Heavy Rainfall

The Rishikesh-Gangotri highway continues to remain closed for traffic on Thursday, marking its third consecutive day of closure. The stretch between Narendra Nagar and Bagaddhar in Uttarakhand has been blocked due to ongoing heavy rainfall. The persistent rain has made conditions extremely challenging in the area, causing disruptions in travel.

With continuous rainfall expected for the next four days, relief from the weather’s grip seems unlikely. Light to moderate showers are predicted in eight districts of the state over the next few days. However, after August 27, the situation is expected to improve in Uttarakhand as the monsoon is predicted to slow down. According to the meteorological department, the monsoon is expected to weaken thereafter.

Over the past several days, most regions of Uttarakhand have experienced incessant heavy rainfall, leading to disruptions in daily life. The pattern of rainfall is anticipated to persist across most districts of the state until August 27. The meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Bageshwar.

Yellow Alert Issued

Thursday could witness heavy rainfall in certain areas of these districts, accompanied by thunder and lightning, making the rain extremely intense at times. Meanwhile, August 25, 26, and 27 might see heavy showers in most districts of the state. A yellow alert has been issued for these three days. The director of the meteorological department, Vikram Singh, explained that the moisture-laden trough line from the Arabian Sea is currently near the state, resulting in ongoing rainfall. However, this trough line is expected to shift away over the next four days, potentially bringing relief from the heavy downpours.

It’s important to note that weather conditions can change rapidly, and residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and road closures before planning any travel.
