Jasprit Bumrah’s Sudden Return from Asia Cup: A Surprising Twist in India’s Campaign

A surprising development has emerged in the midst of the Asia Cup. India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has returned to Mumbai from Sri Lanka. He will not be able to play in the match scheduled for Monday (September 4th) against Nepal at the Pallakelle International Cricket Stadium due to personal reasons. It is reported that Bumrah has returned for family reasons, and there is no cause for concern. Due to rain, he did not get a chance to bowl in the match against Pakistan.

Although Bumrah won’t play against Nepal, he will rejoin the team for the Super Four matches in Sri Lanka. In Bumrah’s absence, experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami might get a chance to play against Nepal. Bumrah returned to ODI cricket against Pakistan after a gap of 13 months. His name was already listed for this match, but he couldn’t bowl a single over. He last played an ODI against England on July 14, 2022.

India may play their Super Four match on September 10th if they win against Nepal or if the match is canceled. In such a case, India will face Pakistan in the Super Four. After that, Team India will play two more matches in their Super Four on September 12 and 15. The tournament’s final is scheduled for September 17.

What happened in the India-Pakistan match?

India’s captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat. Team India couldn’t complete their 50 overs and were restricted to 266 runs in 48.5 overs. After that, due to rain, Pakistan’s innings couldn’t start. The umpires waited for a long time before talking to both captains and ultimately declared the match abandoned. With a partnership of 138 runs between Hardik Pandya (87) and Ishan Kishan (82) for the fifth wicket, India set a target of 267 runs for Pakistan in the Asia Cup match on Saturday. Pakistan’s fast bowlers, led by Shaheen Afridi, took all ten wickets. Shaheen claimed four wickets by giving away 35 runs. Besides him, Haris Rauf and Nasim Shah took three wickets each.
