Heavy Landslide Devastates Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highway

A massive landslide from the hills in Guptkashi-Tarsali region of Rudraprayag has caused the destruction of a 60-meter stretch of the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund highway. There are also reports of a vehicle being trapped in the debris. With a significant portion of the highway being damaged, the route to Kedarnath pilgrimage has been closed, and it is expected to remain inaccessible until Friday.

As a result of the highway closure, traffic has been halted on both sides, causing long queues of vehicles. The police have advised travelers to stop at safe places while they manage the situation and block traffic on various points.

Impact on Kedarnath Yatra On Thursday at 5:30 PM, a massive boulder-laden landslide from the hills caused a 60-meter portion of the highway to collapse in Tarsali. Consequently, the connectivity between Rudraprayag and Guptkashi, Gaurikund, and Sonprayag has been disrupted. This has affected the Kedarnath Yatra once again. According to NH authorities, it might take a significant amount of time to reopen the highway.

Vimal Singh Rawat, Deputy Superintendent of Police, stated that locals and travelers from Rudraprayag to Kakadgad are being informed about the highway closure.

Vehicle Trapped in the Debris Travelers are also being advised to stay at safe places for the night journey. There are reports of a vehicle being trapped, but the situation will become clear once the debris is cleared. It’s worth mentioning that two days ago, a 40-meter stretch of the Devi Dhar highway was also destroyed. After nearly 40 hours, the sound of small vehicles was heard on this stretch, facilitated by NH authorities.
