Second body has been recovered from the debris by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after the landslide occurred late at night on top of the new Chamba taxi stand in New Tehri, Uttarakhand. This incident claimed the lives of five people, including a four-month-old baby.
The victims have been identified as Poonam Khandoori (30), her four-month-old son Sarveel, and her sister Saraswati Devi (45), wife of Vinod Prasad Raturi, residents of Rindolae Village in Ratudi. Prakash (30), son of Fuldas, a resident of Navagar, Sara-Jyula, and Sohan Singh Rawat (34), son of Rukum Singh, resident of Thauldhar block in Bergani Village. Sohan Singh was employed as a delivery boy in an online company.
The administration team continued their work of removing debris from the site throughout the night. After clearing the debris completely by morning, traffic on the Chamba New Tehri motorway has been restored.
Several tons of debris, along with two cars, a scooter, and a bike, were buried in the landslide. A public toilet was also submerged. Six JCB machines and bulldozers were used to clear the debris. In light of the landslide, the administration evacuated four houses near the station to ensure safety and shifted the families to other locations.
