Atiq Ashraf Murder Case: Trial Begins Against Alleged Killers Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya in District Court

The trial against the accused murderers of mafia members Atik Ahmad and Ashraf, namely Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya, has commenced in the district court. On Thursday afternoon, the three accused, who are incarcerated in Pratapgarh jail, appeared via video conferencing in Judge Santosh Rai’s courtroom. They requested the court to grant them time to appoint their preferred lawyers. The court accepted their plea and scheduled the hearing for August 16th.

The accused were slapped with charges under various sections, including IPC Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), Arms Act, 377 (unnatural offences), and the Criminal Law Amendment Act. The charges were filed against Arun, Lavlesh, and Sunny for their alleged involvement in the murders of Atik Ahmad and his brother Ashraf.

The case was initially filed on July 13th in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Following this, Chief Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Kumar Gautam transferred the case to the sessions court for trial after considering the allegations mentioned in the FIR. The murders of mafia members Atik Ahmad and Ashraf occurred on April 15th when they were shot outside the gate of Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (Kalawati). The Special Task Force (STF) was formed by the government to investigate the matter, which subsequently concluded the investigation and filed a charge sheet in the court.
