ALT Tag is an important factor while Optimizing Image for a web page. Here are few tips need to be taken while placing images into your web page.
- Use ALT Tags to label every image on your web page.
- Only use the most relevant keyword in ALT Tag to label your image.
- Do not add unrelated keywords in ALT Tags.
- Try not to make ALT Tag look like spam for search engines.
- Add keyword or phrase for important images.
- For other images like background images, spacers, dividing lines, table borders, and other images used for designing use alt=”” as the Alternate Text.
- Do not repeat keywords.
- ALT Text should be a sentence or phrase, instead of keywords separated by commas.
Tips to add Alternate Text to Images:
The correct way to use ALT Text is:
<img src=”images/ankit-rawat.jpg” alt=”ankit rawat” width=”140? height=”87? />
where ankit-rawat.jpg is the image name and “Ankit Rawat” is the ALT Tag added to the image so as to label it.
It is recommended to use ALT tag with every image of your web page.
Don’t name images as ar123.jpg or something like that … its good to have a correct name for image like .. ankit-rawat.jpg !!

It was really glad to read this information.
For *links?
For tip #6 use semantic mark-up and design using CSS! You should not be including images for design purposes in your HTML content as this is for information and not design purposes, the CSS should deal with all aspects of design.
Image title attributes should be complete with the same information as the alt attribute because different browsers work different ways, in the case of Internet Explorer and Google (and possibly other search engines) using the alt tag incorrectly.
Regarding links, follow the same practise using a title attribute opposed to an alt attribute.
Yes Title tag is good for links but not for images .
Great Tip mat

Re. semantic design – of course you should use semantic design to the fullest extent possible but thanks to the flaws of IE there are some situations where you need to use directly placed images in layouts. I was wondering if I could put keywords in the alt tags on these and this article answered my question. Thanks!
ALT tag also helps to increase the ranking of keywords.
