Takeaway, Myths and Questions left after JuneTune
June 20 | Posted by Ankit | SEOUpdate: JohnMu had answered some Unanswered questions from JuneTune can be seen here. Also he had done a comment on the post JohnMu Confirms about case sensitive results.
However i was not able to attend Google webmaster chat last night … seems like m lazy now a days … but here are some of the takeaways, myths and questions left after JuneTune …
Some takeaways from JuneTune:
- Matt Cutts have 2 cats .. One Emmy (she’s a scaredy cat) and the other Ozzie. He’s a handful.
- Forget about keyword density as this is a matter of past.
- Commented code is ignored by robots, therefore it will have no influence in anything.
- Lower and Upper case might effect your rankings.
- Zero second 302 redirect is not same as 301. I had seen this point somewhere that they are same didn’t remember the orignal source.
- If you click a PPC listing, that visit might influence organic, personalized search results if you are using a Google Toolbar this was th reply from John Mueller. So we can conclude that google is using Toolbar Data now.
- Google look at server location and ccTLD among other factors while ranking your website for a local search result.
- Pagerank is a one of the strongest factor influence number of pages indexed in google index.
- GEO meta data don’t impact GEO targeting.
- Google ignores meta keyword tag .. so no use of using that tag anymore.
- Last modified date is important in sitemap .. as it helps google bot to recognize new content .. and is highly recommended.
- Don’t link all of your websites to each other if they are not targeted to same industry as this might result in engine to think that its a link scheme … more info can be seen at: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66356
Myths from JuneTune:
Michael Savage asked: “If someone clicks on your result for the keyword they entered into Google will that increase your possibilitly in being displayed in future results for the keyword?”
John Mueller replied: “Not in general.”
Can we conclude that there are some chances as the answer was “Not in general” instead of “NO” ??
Again someone asked similar question:
“If you are click a result in google results does that help your ranking for the keyword that was entered?”
John Mueller replied: “It might help with personalized results for YOU but it will not change much in general.”
How about this can we conclude that it helps ? This means that Google have something like CTR for organic results 2 ??
Antony Johnson asked:
“we added a noodp and 2 days later the pages connected to that tag dropped off google could these events be related ?”
Matt Dougherty replied:
“Antony, It is hard to say. If we were using the ODP snippet because we didn’t have any other content crawled for that page, we may now have nothing to show. The situation sounds like it needs a deeper dive. Try posting this in our Help Group.”
Can we conclude that Meta Description is still a ranking factor ?
Some Questions left with me:
- How Google treats News Agencies ? Like i know one and talked about it in my other thread about Advantages and Disadvantages of Press Release. As everyone is paying for the News so its not a noble idea to give credit to a single website for those news.
- If Google really drops the nofollow links from its graph then why we can view them in Our Webmaster Tool ?
- Pedro Dias replied for one question Google can identify paid links …. I wonder how ? Matt Cutts did a Cat Brush post few days back on his blog with a live link with no noindex tag …. so post or review like this on a Google and SEO related blog ??? Don’t u think its suspicious ?? (I know it was not a paid post … but m 100% sure if it was me then Google was going to kick my ass).
- Check this Google Webmaster Help thread for my last question .. as i got a different reply from Rand about the same question in a mail.
Every comment and answer for the above is valuable so feel free to comment on this.

Hi Ankit,
Nice information there, I honestly feel that this gave me quite a good insight.
I like your comment on the “google is using Toolbar Data now.” Well does that mean that PPC listings also gets into indexed pages/links by Google and rankings can be influenced by PPC campaigns as well.
Please do reply.
