Alcohol Options in Darjeeling
Okay, This post is specially for those travellers who are worried after the post made my Yogesh at Travel India 365’s Travel Blog.
Yes, If you’re looking for a drink to enjoy sunset at Kangchenjunga, Then the only option left is – local brew. Since it doesn’t attract state government excise duty, So local brew dn’t come under the ban.
The most popular type is rakshi, made from chingping and rhododendron. Many trekkers in the Sandakphu-Phalut region drink it. I have tried it personally and this is simply awsome!!

raksi is the distilled alcohol. tongba and jaad, made from millets and rice respectively are pretty good beers too.
else, there will always be a supply of sikkim booze, though the prices might be a little steep. but then, West Bengal govt. booze shops sell IFML at 20% mark-up, so the price should be easy to swallow. at least, easier than a glass of fiery raksi
